Commission on the Status of Women CSW56


The fifty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday, 27 February to Friday, 9 March 2012.

Bureau

The Bureau for the 56th session comprises the following members:
  • H.E. Ms. Marjon V. Kamara (Liberia) of the African States Group, Chair
  • Ms. Anne Hernando (Philippines, nominated) of the Asian States Group, Vice-Chair
  • Ms. Irina Velichko (Belarus) of the Eastern European States Group, Vice-Chair
  • Ms. Carla Teresa Arias Orozco (El Salvador, nominated) of the Latin American and Caribbean States Group, Vice-Chair
  • Mr. Filippo Cinti (Italy, nominated), Western European and other States Group, Vice-Chair

Priority theme:
The empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges
Review theme:
Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women (agreed conclusions from the fifty-second session)

Preparations

UN Women in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and World Food Programme (WFP) will convene an expert group meeting (EGM) on 'Enabling rural women's economic empowerment: institutions, opportunities and participation' from 20 to 23 September, 2011 in Accra, Ghana.

Commission on the Status of Women


A global policy-making body, the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), dedicated exclusively to gender equality and the advancement of women. Every year, representatives of Member States gather at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and advancement of women worldwide. read more: About CSWDocumentationNGO Participation

CSW 2011

The fifty-fifth session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 22 February to 4 March 2011. Representatives from Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world will attend the session. There will be a number of activities, including interactive dialogues and panels, during the two-week session.

  • Priority Theme: Access and participation of women and girls in education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work

La Red de Mujeres Africanas y Españolas por un Mundo Mejor participa en la Comisión sobre el Estatus de la Mujer en Nueva York

Representantes de la Red de Mujeres Africanas y Españolas por un Mundo Mejor participarán de manera activa en la Comisión sobre el Estatus de la Mujer que tendrá lugar en las próximas dos semanas en Nueva York. Este evento, que se desarrolla en la sede de Naciones Unidas, ha albergado en anteriores ediciones a alrededor de 10.000 participantes, constituyendo el principal encuentro internacional de organizaciones de mujeres. La Conferencia se desarrollará entre el 22 de febrero y el 4 de marzo.

La Delegación de la Red participará en los paneles de la Conferencia que este año tiene como temática La Educación de las Niñas y el Acceso a la Ciencia y a la Tecnología. Dos acciones principales ocuparán las actividades de la Delegación: un encuentro sobre las redes sociales y los jóvenes, organizado por ONU Mujeres en el que la Red presentará dos buenas prácticas en este tema y una mesa redonda con el título Trabajando en Red por una Educación en Equidad en África (cartel adjunto).
