Commission on the Status of Women CSW56


The fifty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday, 27 February to Friday, 9 March 2012.

Bureau

The Bureau for the 56th session comprises the following members:
  • H.E. Ms. Marjon V. Kamara (Liberia) of the African States Group, Chair
  • Ms. Anne Hernando (Philippines, nominated) of the Asian States Group, Vice-Chair
  • Ms. Irina Velichko (Belarus) of the Eastern European States Group, Vice-Chair
  • Ms. Carla Teresa Arias Orozco (El Salvador, nominated) of the Latin American and Caribbean States Group, Vice-Chair
  • Mr. Filippo Cinti (Italy, nominated), Western European and other States Group, Vice-Chair

Themes

Priority theme:
The empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges
Review theme:
Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women (agreed conclusions from the fifty-second session)
Emerging issue:
Engaging young women and men, girls and boys, to advance gender equality
